Tree Services
TREE PRUNING
Tree pruning is a means of controlling growth and removing diseased or dead wood. It is also often used to enhance a tree’s productivity.
Our service includes all aspects of formative pruning, dead wooding, crown raising, thinning, reductions, pollarding and coppicing.
Pruning the branches of a tree helps to alter its shape, which in turn enhances its welfare. Often, this means removing physical weaknesses and defects to encourage future re-growth, or to reduce the weight of the tree to reduce the chance of future failures.
TREE REMOVAL
We can remove trees that are dead, unsafe or diseased, but we only carry out complete tree removal in selected situations, and only when there is no risk to any property or people or if the tree isn’t protected.
First, we establish the safest and most effective methods for felling it and then we ensure the task is completed efficiently. Once the tree has been felled, the area will be cleared of any remaining debris.
If you’re unsure if you need a tree removing, it’s best to book a site visit with us and we can advise if a complete tree removal is necessary.
STUMP REMOVAL
Being left with unsightly and bulky tree stumps is no fun — especially if you have plans to reuse the space, or plant another tree in its place.
Our stump grinder effectively removes tree stumps of any size (plus all major roots) and in any location. It works by grinding the stump right out of the ground, so that all you are left with is a pile of wood chip, mixed with the soil. Perfect mulching material for the rest of your garden!
We offer eco plug treatment in instances where access is tight and we are unable to use the machine. In other circumstances, it may be necessary to manually remove the stump using mechanical systems.
VEGETATION MANAGEMENT
As well as our tree work, we also offer a range of landscape management services such as hedge cutting, shrub pruning and shrub management.

VETERAN TREE MANAGEMENT
To sustain the lives of ancient and other veteran trees, it's vital that the trees and land around them are properly cared for.
Our Veteran Tree Management covers the management of surrounding veteran trees, the prevention of structural failure and the continuation of traditional management practices such as root protection and mulching.
We also offer retrenchment pruning, natural fracture pruning (coronet cuts) and tree bracing.

Ecological Works
HABITAT CREATION
Habitat creation involves protecting, enhancing and restoring habitats via a range of methods such as pruning dead trees and eco piling of organic material.
Habitat creation may also involve enhancing habitats for protected species, hedgerow laying for mice, or simple measures such as the installation of bat/bird boxes.
A dead tree can be an abundance of life, so instead of removing dead trees completely, where they can be made safe, a ‘coronet cut’ or ‘monolith’ can be used as a way of preserving the existing habitat.
WILDLIFE ASSESSMENT
Any ground development or disturbance can put pressure on the biodiversity of a habitat. Whether a development site is in a rural or urban area, it’s vital that a wildlife assessment is carried out and all habitats are considered.
We carry out ground-based assessments and aerial assessments to prevent habitat loss, fragmentation and from any wildlife destruction. This can be especially useful if you are applying for planning permission or changing the use for an area of land. Contact us for more information on how we can help.
TREE REPORTS
We’re able to act on your behalf to check and apply for any tree preservation orders (TPOs) and conservation areas that your residential or commercial property may be subject to.
By applying to your local council directly, we make your life easier – taking the headache out of legislation – while also providing you with the reassurance you’re get the right authorisations you need. Whatever your requirements, we’re able to help.
RECYCLING
Wood chip, timber and mulch is a natural by-product of tree surgery and all of it is recycled at Chop and Change.
By adding mulch to the ground, we help suppress weed growth and assist in water retention, while wood chip makes the perfect base for a woodland path. For any large pieces of timber, we send this for processing into firewood.
